Ann Arbor Doll Collectors believe an important part of doll collecting is sharing our love of dolls with others. We provide the opportunity for others to develop their love of dolls by sponsoring gifts of dolls, clothing, and accessories to needy children with our Holiday Dolls program. Throughout the year, we purchase well-made dolls, and provide backpacks, sleeping bags, and other supplies. These dolls are given to service organizations, which distribute the gift packages to children who would otherwise not receive their own dolls at Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa.
We also believe an important part of our service is to share our knowledge about dolls with others. During the past few years, we have created doll displays at museums and libraries, and provided classes for a doll collector's patch to several Girl Scout groups.
In 2007, we hosted the Junior Doll Collectors' tea at the UFDC National Convention in Detroit with a presentation on "Bride Dolls through History." In 2010 we hosted the Madame Alexander Eloise dinner at UFDC National Convention in Chicago with the Motor City Doll Club and Royal Oak Dolls and Friends.
Finally, we have raised money for reading organi-zations, made and given teddy bears to hospitals, donated toiletries to homeless shelters, collected calendars for merchant mariners, and donated toys, toiletries, mittens, and hats to local family shelters.
